Charlottesville, VA is a city with a southern heritage and style. I wanted to use a symbol that would reflect that same charm, but with a more modern look and feel. The image of ornate wallpaper certainly dates the logo and connects it to homes but also put's the mark in a distinguished class. Although very fashionable during it's time period, it was a luxury enjoyed by the most wealthy.
Examples of wallpaper patterns can be seen in popular art, culture and fashion today as trendy and vintage. Ornate wallpaper also has something instinctually European about it, and when considering the style of home's being built in Charlottesville, it was a strong positive.
